Student Position - Farm to ISU Grant Coordinator Needed!

The campus local food program through ISU Dining (Farm to ISU) has been awarded a grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship for increasing ISU Dining's purchases of Iowa specialty crops (vegetables/fruits/nuts) within the next two years.

We're looking to hire a student coordinator who would be in charge of fulfilling grant responsibilities. The position would begin in November 2010 and go through November 2011.

General grant responsibilities include: promoting Farm to ISU to Iowa specialty crop farmers, coordinating GAP/GHP workshops for farmers and workshops for ISU Dining staff, and promoting Iowa specialty crops to ISU students.

Skills and Abilities Required:
* Leader & self-starter
* Good organizational skills with the ability to perform under pressure
* Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets
* Ability to work effectively alone and as a member of a team
* Ability to communicate ideas effectively, orally and in writing
* Ability to plan and manage grant projects and programs
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university personnel, State agencies, and local farmer organizations
* Background in agriculture a benefit but not necessary
* Knowledge of "local food systems" a benefit but not necessary

Other Requirements:
* Willingness to travel to conferences and promotional events
* Willingness to dive in and learn on the job!

This is a paid position at $15.00/hr and ~10hrs/week (flexible hours)
